About Linda Joy Aerial

Yoga For Your Mental and Physical Health

Hello! My name is Linda Joy Herron, and I have been practicing yoga for over 18 years. Initially, I started with many different types of yoga – Iyengar, Yin, Ashtanga, and later found Vinyasa.

I have a son (14) and a daughter (19), and when they were younger I wanted to expose them to yoga. So I became certified in Karma Kids yoga and taught a class at their school. I taught at the school for 4 years, extending my class time along the way from 60 to 90 minutes because the kids wanted more. It was an honor to teach such amazing young spirits.

I fell in love with Vinyasa yoga and decided to immerse myself into a 200 hour teacher training course. (Never really wanting to be a teacher but just to learn more for myself.) After completing the course, I continued with my own Vinyasa practice and started to teach friends, free of charge.

Unfortunately, I stopped practicing for a while for a few reasons: depression, several herniated discs, and frustration in not becoming very flexible. But the universe has a way of bringing us things if we just listen. In early 2019, while in Thailand on a scuba diving trip, I saw these strange hammocks hanging in a yoga studio. Of course, I had to know what they were so I took a private class with my husband. Turns out, it was aerial yoga!

As soon as I returned home I did a search for aerial yoga and found a studio nearby that a friend owned (I had no idea they did aerial). I took my first class and I was hooked! My inner child came out – I was smiling, giggling and the herniated discs were feeling better.

I wanted to be a student for a year before thinking about an aerial teacher training, and then Covid-19 hit the world. After a couple months my depression was bad and my cervical and lumbar were radiating pain down my arm, hips and leg – I knew I had to do something. I enrolled and completed a 35 hour teacher training and from there all I wanted was to keep learning more and more.

Currently, I have completed a 250 hour aerial yoga teacher training, a 200 hour aerial Pilates training, an 80 hour aerial yin yoga training and am continuing my education with a 500 hour aerial teacher training course right now. I am an open book. Without aerial yoga, my smile wouldn’t be as bright and my inner child wouldn’t exist. I love my family but we need things for ourselves – especially while fighting severe depression.

My passion is one-on-one or semi-private lessons; this way we can work on exactly what you desire or need.

I would like to thank all of my teachers and mentors all over the world.

Namaste,

Linda

What We Do

Benefits of Aerial Fitness

There are myriad benefits of aerial fitness. While all of these offer positive additions to your daily routine, possibly the most notable is the fact that hanging suspended in the air somehow, someway offers a sense of safety that’s hard to match.

Great for back sufferers

While everyone can benefit from aerial yoga classes, they’re especially great for people experiencing back pain. Because of the hammock’s support, far less pressure is placed upon your joints. Aerial yoga also doesn’t strain the spine, which is a huge advantage for back pain sufferers. You’ll be able to obtain a full body workout without any discomfort.

Improved flexibility, stability, and balance

A 2019 study observed that aerial athletes have exceptional flexibility, balance, and strength. In order to maintain a great range of motion, you must consistently work on your flexibility. Aerial yoga class will definitely help you to safely stretch your muscles and tendons. Being suspended in the air gives you more space to move. This means you’ll be able to perform yoga poses that you can’t do on the floor.

Help with Breathing

Controlled breathing is an important aspect of yoga. Aerial yoga allows you to breathe deeply with any restriction. While hanging in the air, you’ll be able to totally relax. Aerial yoga enables you to comfortably maintain every pose. Over time, you can even expect to improve your lung capacity.

Improved mental health.

Don’t underestimate the stress relief that stems from participating in aerial yoga classes. If you happen to be going through a rough time or experiencing anxiety attacks, aerial yoga will help put your mind at ease.
